100 Books Published in the 19th Century to Find on a Bookshelf

100 Books Published in the 19th Century to Find on a BookshelfThis is a list of 100 books that were all published in the 19th century. The books are all genuine, and the list includes the authors, the subject matter, and the date of publication.

These books are suited for a historical, or especially a steampunk, campaign, set in that time period.

The books are all on scientific subjects, such as evolution, steam engines, mathematics, physics, chemistry, astronomy and metallurgy.

To use the book, either roll d100 for a random result, or select a suitable one manually. Unlike the other book lists, these books are ordered by publication date, rather than name.

Here are some sample results:

46. A Treatise on the Metallurgy of Iron by Hilary Bauerman (1868, history of iron manufacture, analyses of iron ores and the manufacturing processes of iron and steel)
47. The Principles of Chemistry by D. Mendeleev (1868, 2 volumes, second volume published 1870, Russian, classifying the elements by their chemical properties and the periodic table)
48. Hereditary Genius by Francis Galton (1869, a scientific attempt to study genius and greatness)
