100 Pieces of Flotsam and Jetsam To Find On A Beach (5E)

100 Pieces of Flotsam and Jetsam To Find On A Beach (5E)Should the characters at some point be beside the water, whether a sea, ocean or even a large lake, they may find things that have been cast up on the beach, whether rocky or otherwise. Such items may be the typical detritus that is lost from ships, dropped in the water or simply found beside the sea. It may also include items that are valuable or dangerous.

This is a list of 100 different things that could be found by characters beside the water, or perhaps even be bobbing in the water itself. These can be used as simple dressing for a location or perhaps as a source of adventure hooks. Some are clearly useful; others not so much.

The supplement is also available in a system-neutral and Pathfinder versions. You do not need to buy all three.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

61. An abacus. There are small pegs on the beads that hold them in place when they’re moved, allowing the device to be used at sea. It’s worth 5 sp.
62. A footlocker. Inside are two sets of wet sailor’s clothes, a ruined book, a tarnished silver ring worth 3 sp, and a broken storm lantern. Carved into the locker is the name Adolphus, and a DC 14 History check reveals that was the name of a merchant ship that went down in a storm around these parts ten years ago. The legend says the captain was smuggling something valuable on the ship, and he drowned trying to get it out of its hiding place.
63. A thick mat of seaweed. Anyone who walks over it needs to make a DC 15 Dexterity save to avoid the 10-foot-deep tiger pit that was dug beneath the seaweed. The hole is half-filled with water, and requires a DC 17 Athletics check to get out unassisted.
