D10: The Strange Rumours – Recursions: Camelot Le Morte

WorldsThe Strange is a game published by Monte Cook Games. It is, at least in part, set in the normal world, but there are other worlds out there, in the Strange. This list has ten rumours for that setting, similar to the various different adventure hooks in the books, and these can be used as adventure hooks or simple misinformation.

  1. Camboglanna is an ancient Roman fort in Camelot Le Morte is controlled by Mordred, leader of much of the recursion’s organised resistance to the maladie de la machine. It’s rumoured that Mordred’s attempts to secure the fortress from the maladie have not been as effective as he would like.
  2. Hollow knights are suits of armour enchanted by Mordred to move and fight of their own accord. It’s rumoured, though, that what animates the armour isn’t, strictly speaking, magic that Mordred has cast, but the spirits of the dead Arthur’s bastard son has trapped inside them.
  3. Mordred, leader of Camboglanna and bastard son of Arthur, has the ability to code magic into tattoos. It’s rumoured that some of those who fight for him only do so because Mordred inscribed tattoos into their skin that compel them to do so.
  4. Queen Gwenhwyfar keeps the rotting remains of Arthur within the royal bedchamber. It’s rumoured that some element of the king still lives on, and that if Merlin, or someone else of similar power, were able to get their hands on Arthur’s body, they might be able to restore the king to what he once was.
  5. Sir Kay seems to have much of his original personality, though he is still totally loyal to Queen Gwenhwyfar. It’s said that Sir Kay’s behaviour allows him to lure the unsuspecting into what now remains of Camelot, and those to which he does this do not suspect the truth until it is far too late.
  6. Sir Percival, of all the Knights of the Round Table, is the one who seems to have had his original personality most removed. However, some claim that this is because Percival is playing along, pretending to be almost completely overwritten so that he can finally strike back against the plague that has overtaken Camelot.
  7. The castle of Camelot in Camelot Le Morte is riddled with metallic wire that connects the various inhabitants, who have been converted into mécanisme, together. It’s said that this connection greatly boosts the ability of those mécanisme who are in the network, just like computers connected together.
  8. The maladie de la machine is a disease that has converted many of the inhabitants of Camelot Le Morte into mécanisme, machine creatures. It’s rumoured that a number of incidents have happened in which the maladie has nearly escaped from Camelot to taint other recursions.
  9. The mécanisme that was Sir Galahad is said to be seeking to sit on the Siege Perilous, given his name appeared on it, or seeking out the Holy Grail, but Queen Gwenhwyfar has forbidden him from doing either. It’s rumoured that this is causing problems in controlling Galahad, and that the queen is considering that she may be best off ending him.
  10. The Siege Perilous is the Round Table seat reserved by Merlin for the person who finds the Holy Grail, and so far, every mécanisme who has tried to sit in it immediately died. It’s rumoured that Queen Gwenhwyfar has taken to trying unconverted humans in the seat as well, to see if that makes a difference.

D10: Europe Rumours: The Communication, Energy, Food, Population and Technology Commissions

Europe10 Hooks and Rumours for Cyberpunk 2.0.2.0.’s Europe

This list has ten hooks and rumours that can be heard about Europe’s Communication, Energy, Food, Population and Technology Commissions. Whether or not they are true is up to the GameMaster. They can be used as background colour or as potential adventure hooks.

  1. Europe’s Food Commission has constant problems with surpluses and shortages, as well as the local politics of the agricultural business. Their main weapons are quotas and subsidies, and it’s rumoured that the commission has started using these as a blunt instrument to defeat some of the local politics that get in the way of food production.
  2. Europe’s power needs are the responsibility of the Energy Commission, who invest in all kinds of power sources, meaning that in theory the EC now has enough power for its current needs. It’s rumoured that the commission has realised that Europe is going to need significantly more power generation capabilities if it’s to continue, though, and has been investing even more into renewable sources of energy, as well as ways of defending such from outside attack.
  3. Europe’s Technology Commission keeps Europe’s technology up with the rest of the world, investing money into universities and colleges that do research and giving grants to companies with promising ideas. The commission doesn’t condone espionage or intellectual property theft, but there are rumours that occasionally some within the commission do stoop to such methods, feeling that not doing so gives the commission a disadvantage when dealing with the rest of the world.
  4. Making sure there is enough food for everyone is the responsibility of the Food Commission, and it has control of many artificial food supplies. There are constant rumours of what goes into some of these artificial foods, with some calling them “Soylent Green” thanks to claims that the dead are recycled into food.
  5. Terrorism is a problem for Europe’s power distribution network, comprised as it is of large targets, such as power lines, that often don’t have anyone near them. The Energy Commission is reputedly petitioning to have its own armed protective force intended to reduce the chance of attacks and proactively go after potential terrorists.
  6. The ESA is the largest and most advanced space organisation, though it has lost some of its lead recently. The Technology Commission is rumoured to be pouring large amounts of money into space research to recapture what was lost, and especially to counter the military threat of the US.
  7. The Communication Commission is responsible for all non-physical communications within the EC. It’s rumoured that the commission has set up eavesdropping programs in many places around the net to intercept communications, perhaps those definitely of interest, perhaps everything.
  8. The European Space Agency is currently part of the EC’s Technology Commission, but there are rumours that some within the ESA believe that the organisation would be better served if it was its own separate commission, just like the EDF. Given that the ESA makes the Technology Commission the only commission to make a profit, this is a less than popular idea with the ESA’s current parent.
  9. The Population Commission has been running into problems. Part of its duties are to ensure that the population in different parts of the EC is sufficient for the needs, and population decline has been causing issues with this. It’s rumoured that the commission is looking to pay families a stipend to have more children, whether their own or adopted from outside the EC.
  10. The Technology Commission is effectively divided into three different sections; general, transport and military. It’s rumoured that the general section is currently cooperating with the military section, using the resources of both, to develop some new generations of bioweapons.
