Columns are pillars are commonly found as a way of keeping the ceiling up in larger rooms. Most such will be quite normal, even if carved extensively.
The columns in this supplement are not normal and often do not sound as if they are capable of keeping the roof up. They can come in odd shapes and may have strange features built into them. The more normal-seeming columns may come in rows; the truly odd ones may be singletons. Some columns are potentially dangerous.
To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.
Here are some sample results:
96. This stone column appears to be slightly blurred. If it is touched, there is resistance but it is also possible to push into the column’s material, for it is slightly out of phase with the rest of its environment (casting phase door on the column returns it permanently into phase as a normal stone column).
97. This stone column is riddled with tiny cracks, although it still seems to be solid. Smoke is trickling out through all of the cracks and, even though the smoke isn’t streaming out rapidly, it still renders the area rather smoky (within 10’ of the pillar, vision is reduced by half and characters within the smoke must make a CL 4 Constitution save every round, with a penalty of -1 for each previous check, or spend the round coughing and choking).
98. This wooden column is covered in many small lines from a distance. When it is closely examined (CL 2 Intelligence check), the lines are found to be the edges of very tiny slivers of wood, no more than two inches long and a fraction thick, that have been stuck together to create the column. Should the column be destroyed, it is found to have been entirely made in this manner.
