Should the characters at some point be beside the water, whether a sea, ocean or even a large lake, they may find things that have been cast up on the beach, whether rocky or otherwise. Such items may be the typical detritus that is lost from ships, dropped in the water or simply found beside the sea. It may also include items that are valuable or dangerous.
This is a list of 100 different things that could be found by characters beside the water, or perhaps even be bobbing in the water itself. These can be used as simple dressing for a location or perhaps as a source of adventure hooks. Some are clearly useful; others not so much.
To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.
Here are some sample results:
43. An iron-bound trunk. With a CL 8 Strength check to break the lock, or by picking it, the party finds mouldy dresses, and soaked silks. A CL 9 Intelligence check reveals a false bottom. Inside the false bottom is a key ring with three keys, and a still-legible note that reads, Iron for the sea gate, bronze for the mountain fast, and gold for the old king’s treasure hold.
44. 5 sets of rusted iron manacles. Closer examination reveals these are the kinds of chains used on slave ships.
45. A broken harpoon, with a length of frayed rope still attached to one end.
