Absalom is the City in The Center of The World. A place that has stood since ancient times, it’s said that the whole of the Inner Sea revolves around the decisions made within the soaring spires, and that even a stone thrown in the gutters can ripple out into the world in unexpected ways. There are sights to see in Absalom that would be wondrous anywhere else, but which are little more than background noise to the residents of this metropolis.
If your party finds themselves wandering the streets of this fantastical place, use some of the following sights to drive home that you really can find anything here. And if you’re looking for rumors to build your next plot arc on, there are plenty of those to follow as well!
Here are some sample results:
Primarch Starborn has been trying to crack down on many of the known dens of iniquity in the Precipice Quarter, with varying degrees of success. While some of the raids have been effective, breaking up several gangs and shuttering a number of small-time operations, more than a few locals are convinced the district’s real power players are manipulating the Primarch into taking care of their competition. Some of the particularly cynical residents are convinced that the smaller leg breakers and card turners were offered up as a sacrifice in order to make it look like Starborn’s efforts are having an effect when the truth is that the raids are getting nowhere near the deeper corruption burrowed into the quarter.
Moaning whispers have been heard from the mouths of several defunct fountains in the quarter for months now. Some say it’s ghosts trying to make themselves heard, while others believe it’s merely a result of misfiring magic set loose during the quake and the fall of the great towers. A minority of folk in the district, though, think the voices belong to people who’ve gotten lost beneath the streets (or who were dragged there by something) who are searching for a way out.
Vultures have begun infesting the district, many of them flocking to abandoned courtyards in particular manor houses, and taking up residence in specific areas of various, overgrown parks. The poets of the city claim this is because the buzzards know this corner of the Absalom is dying, and so they come as the bald-headed harbingers of encroaching doom. A more likely explanation, though, is that these locations are where the gangs in the Precipice Quarter tend to dump the bodies of their latest kills, so the birds have learned that if they’re patient enough that a free meal will be left for them sooner rather than later.
