Like A Good Neighbor – Portraying True Fae in Your Chronicle

Like A Good Neighbor – Portraying True Fae in Your ChronicleThe True Fae are largely regarded as the largest antagonists of Changeling: The Lost. Even if they are not present in a particular chronicle, they send ripples throughout the entire setting simply by existing. After all, without them, there would be no changelings. However, despite the fact that these Lords of Faerie can take any form, and be nearly anything, too often as Storytellers we end up leaving them as cardboard cutouts; as caricatures of what they should really be.

And while it’s true that these creatures can be single-minded antagonists bent on revenge, murder or subjugation, that is only one of a myriad of possibilities for them. Because the only thing that is certain about the True Fae is they are constantly changing… but even when they change, can you really trust that what you’re seeing is not just another part of their grand illusion?

The purpose of this supplement is to help Storytellers think about the True Fae in a more nuanced way, and to expand their purpose and expression throughout Chronicles of Darkness campaigns… because while they might have the largest impact on Changeling: The Lost, these little gods who rule Arcadia can touch many of the other games in the setting as well. As such, even those who run games outside of Changeling might still benefit from the exercises that follow.
