To liven up travel, characters can stumble across things, not just encounters. This supplement has a list of 100 different curiosities that characters could encounter when travelling.
These curiosities may look important, or at the very least puzzling, but none of them have any actual meaning unless the GameMaster decides otherwise. They can be used to add colour to a journey, as red herrings to distract players or as potential adventure hooks.
To use the list, roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.
Here are some sample results:
31. A pole stretches across the road, about 3’ above the ground, between to vertical posts. One post is Y-shaped at the top and one end of the pole sits snugly in the Y. The other end of the pole protrudes about 3’ beyond the other post, to which it is attached with a thick iron bolt. This allows the pole to be lifted up out of the way. It looks like it was intended to block passage,
but to be remotely effective would need to be guarded as well, but there are no signs of guards or that there ever were any.
32. A pond sits in some rocks with various pond plants in it. Something looks odd about the pond, and when the direction it is observed from is changed, it definitely looks odd as all the perspectives look off. When the pond is examined, it is discovered to actually be a very realistic painting.
33. Apples on a tree sparkle and catch the light. As they are approached it can be seen that the apples are golden. This is because they have all been painted gold, rather than being made of gold.
