100 Hiding Places for Valuables

100 Hiding Places for ValuablesNot every valuable or important item is left clearly visible for characters to find or loot, or stored in an obvious secure location, such as a chest or safe. Some may be hidden in less obvious places; in buildings, furniture, vehicles and on people.

This is a list of 100 different places where valuables of different types can be stored, from tiny gems and microdots to weapon. Around a third are suited to any time period; the rest require more modern settings. In some cases, the 18th century is new enough but most of the modern hiding places require the 20th century or equivalent, and the latter half of that. Some spaces can be used for bulky items whilst others are only suitable for documents.

Here are some sample results:

30. Drawer – A drawer in a chest of drawers, desk or other appropriate item of furniture. (The drawer has a false bottom, ideally suited for flat and small objects, which can be pried out. If this is one of several otherwise identical drawers, the difference in depth may be easier to spot.)
31. Dung – A large pile of dung. (Items can be concealed in the dung, the size depending on the amount of dung present. Extracting them will be unpleasant.)
32. Dummy Component – A component in the car’s engine compartment. (A genuine but unnecessary engine component that is attached by plugged hoses to genuine hoses via a T-splice and/or wired to a
blank terminal on the fuse box. The component is hollowed out.)
