Pits may often be built as traps to catch the unwary, but they may have other reasons for existence too. And even traps can have distinguishing features.
This supplement has 100 pits that can be used to decorate a dungeon, sometimes as just background colour, sometimes with hooks for more.
To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.
Here are some sample results:
59. The bottom foot of the pit is filled with a layer of fine grey dust that forms into choking clouds when disturbed.
60. The bottom of the pit is awash with oil that isn’t soaking away. The oil makes footing more uncertain, and there’s also the danger that a stray flame may ignite it or the fumes.
61. The bottom of the pit is taken up by a summoning circle that has been inscribed on the floor. The circle is now extensively splashed with blood, suggesting that a mistake was made in it.
