Whilst asking around for information, characters could hear rumours that may not be connected to what they are currently inquiring about.
This supplement has 100 rumours that characters could hear in the American Old, or Wild, West. They can be used for a campaign set in that time period and have a strong media influence, rather than being purely historical. Elements such as proper names can be changed to tie the rumours to locations and people. They can be a source of background colour or potential adventure hooks.
To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.
Here are some sample results:
28. Dusty Burns the undertaker has been stocking up on coffins recently. He has a lot of lumber coming in and has been making it into dozens of coffins. Far more than he would need for the next couple of years. Which is worrying; why does he think he will suddenly be far busier than normal? Does he know something others don’t, or has he simply lost his mind?
29. Earl Slack is a newcomer who purchased the old Bishop ranch to the west. With gold bars it’s said. He seems to be constantly looking over his shoulder for something and came into town all alone. Slack is going to need some hands to manage the ranch but, so far, he hasn’t been looking for any. That’s going to have to change soon or the land will be driven into the ground. Slack’s whole behaviour is that of a man with something to hide.
30. Eva Cooper came running into town the other day, scared out of her wits. She’d gone out to the Millinger homestead, as she’s been walking out with Glen Millinger, and found the whole family dead. Eva said the whole family was just sitting around the table, slumped in their food, without a mark on them. Struck down in the middle of their meal.
