99 Whispers and Rumors to Hear in Archbliss, The City of The Sorcerers

99 Whispers and Rumors to Hear in Archbliss, The City of The SorcerersArchbliss is a place of myth and legend; a floating city in the sky, raised into the air by ancient sorcerers who wished a place of their own away from the turmoil and dangers of the world below. While it was closed off to outsiders for centuries, only welcoming those who displayed powers of a sorcerous bloodline, Archbliss has opened its gates over the years. Selectively, of course.

While the City of The Sorcerers seems like a place of endless wonders and everyday impossibilities due to just how much magic flows through its streets, those who know how to listen will still hear their share of rumors bubbling just beneath the surface. From gossip about the private lives of the Perpetual Peers, to whispers about lost discoveries and ancient magical laboratories, people are just as prone to spread what they hear in Archbliss as they are in any other city.

As with all the previous installments of this series, though, the question is up to you as the Game Master. Are any of these whispers true? Are all of them true? And will they merely be background fodder for your game, or will these rumors be the basis for your party’s upcoming adventure in the floating city in the sky?

Here are some sample results:

9. North Gate is one of the more conservative parts of Archbliss, traditionally speaking. This isn’t overly shocking, given that abjuration tends to focus on a refusal to change, or to be affected. Recent generations, though, have seen youngbloods with a burning desire to enact new methods, and to cast off convention. This isn’t exactly new, but what is new is that they’re refusing to be cowed by the weight of those who came before them. Right now, the only question is if this wave will break on the rocks like all the others, or if this could truly be the generation that makes change in North Gate.

10. Religion is rather uncommon in Archbliss, particularly given that many sorcerers (and the great houses) frown on faith when they have so much power at their own fingertips. Despite that, though, North Gate has more shrines than anywhere else in the city. Some claim this is just another piece of history that’s been preserved, but others have suggested there is some kind of connection between spirituality and those whose bloodlines are most suited for protecting themselves and others. Others have suggested that abjuration magic, by its nature, breeds paranoia, which leads sorcerers who focus on it to offer rites and rituals to beings even more powerful than they are in hopes of divine favor or guidance… which comes with its own set of dangers.

11. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, or so the old saying goes. Residents of North Gate take this to heart, and they tend to be quite concerned with their health and fitness, attempting to stop frailty and sickness from ever getting hold of them in the first place. While many of their routines and trends have caught on in other parts of the city, it’s not always clear what is actually helpful and effective, and what is just acting as a placebo.
