Doors are a common feature in fantasy dungeons and other locations. More often than not, they are merely a way of making it harder to go into or out of a room, but magical doors can be much more interesting.
This supplement has 36 magical doors suitable for fantasy role playing games, especially those that could be considered OSR, but also other d20 systems. There are some generalised references to stats, which will work for many systems.
These can be used by a Game Master to flesh out a location with a door that is a little bit different. Some of the doors are useful, whilst others are dangerous to mess with.
To use the list, either roll d66 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.
Here are some sample results:
16 Door of Communication: The door of communication has what appears to be a fine grille set into one side of the door, the side that would be classed as outside. The door is connected to another item, similar to a crystal ball, that when activated can see whatever is in front of the door of communication and hear any sounds in that area as well. The crystal ball device can be used to speak through as well, and those in front of the door will hear the user’s voice issuing through it. On command, the door’s owner can also order it to unlock and allow people to pass through it, then order it closed and locked again. The door of communication and the crystal ball can only communicate with each other if they are less than a mile apart and on the same plane of existence; they will not work across planes or further apart.
21 Door of Different Destinations: The door of different destinations doesn’t do anything by itself, as it needs attuning to other doors of the same type. Doors of different destinations can be attuned into a network, and will not work with doors outside that network. Within the network, the door’s user names the intended destination door before opening it. If this is not done, the door is just a normal door. If it is done, the door, when opened, will open at the location of the chosen destination door. The user, and others, can step through the doorway and be teleported to that destination. The door of different destinations resets back to the default of being an ordinary door when closed, and will not work between different planes. Attuning the doors of different destinations, and using them to teleport, requires the use of a special ring that is attuned to one of the existing doors in the network, or the first new door if there are currently none.
