Doors are a common component of dungeons, as rooms do need blocking off, but they are often neglected to a degree. Many doors may follow a standard format, if they are described at all, with important doors either being the only ones described or the only ones that differ, making it obvious which doors are important.
Here are 100 different descriptions for doors that can be used to hide special doors by having many more described in detail, or with noticeable traits. If desired, these doors could also be special in some way. Some of the doors are not doors in the standard sense and others no longer fulfil their intended purpose. By mixing some of the descriptions up, or using other materials, the number of descriptions can be increased.
To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.
The supplement is also available in a system neutral version. Both copies are not needed.
Here are some sample results:
59. This oak door is completely covered in carved words in either a completely fabricated language or one of the GM’s choice. The words would appear to have been carved when the door was made as some letters are partially obscured by the iron hinges and handle. (hardness 5, 15 hp, Break DC 16, a DC 20 Linguistics check to identify the language, of the GM’s choosing)
60. This apparently normal door is in fact is a carefully constructed false door. The door is made of pine and it has iron hinges and a handle, complete with a lock, and there is even a slight draught coming from the tiny gap between the door and the frame, but the lock cannot be picked, as it is fake, and the door will not open. With enough strength it might be ripped away from the
wall, revealing a blank wall with several small holes in it that simply feed back on themselves, engineered to create the draught. (To rip away the false door, Break DC 50, to determine that the door is fake a DC 40 Perception check)
61. This door is made from 4” thick, greenish glass. Only light can easily be seen through the glass, and that not clearly, and everything else appears as a distorted shadowy outline, although movement can be seen through the glass, especially if something moves between the door and a light source. The glass is stronger than it might appear, the handle is a lipped depression and iron hinges have been inset into the glass. (hardness 7, 30 hp, Break DC 25, DC 40 Perception check to try and make anything out through the glass)
