Pits may often be built as traps to catch the unwary, but they may have other reasons for existence too. And even traps can have distinguishing features.
This supplement has 100 pits that can be used to decorate a dungeon, sometimes as just background colour, sometimes with hooks for more.
To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.
Here are some sample results:
38. Pinned to each wall and the floor of the pit is a spreadeagled skeleton, held in place through iron spikes through each limb.
39. Plants are growing in profusion in the bottom of the pit, enough to break a fall into it slightly (reduce damage taken by a fall by -1 per die, to a minimum of 1).
40. Rime covers every surface of the pit, making them much more slippery (the equivalent of a grease spell), and a deep, bone-chilling cold permeates it (severe cold; see Cold Dangers in Chapter 13 – Environment in the Core Rulebook).
