Dungeons are a staple of fantasy settings and in these, as well as other locations, water, and other liquids, or often found. The water sources may be a source of good, drinkable water, or they may be hazardous.
This supplement lists 100 different water features and sources that could be found in a dungeon. These range from small to large, from portable to fixed and from natural to man-made. Some of the features are definitely odd and are magical in some way; others are more normal. These features may be hazardous – some are definitely so – or they may be perfectly normal. Even if players believe otherwise. Suggestions are also given that can be used to customise some of the features.
To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.
Here are some sample results:
25. Floor – The floor is covered in a thin layer of water, no more than an inch deep at most. (Characters examining the walls will see a stain almost at the ceiling that suggests, with a DC 5 Perception check, the water level used to be much higher, and perhaps it could reach that level again.)
26. Flume – A wooden flume, shaped like a quadrilateral with equal sides and an open top wider than its base, enters the area through a hole in one wall and leaves through a hole in the opposite wall. The flume is 2’ across at the top and half full of flowing water. It is standing on wooden pillars, and where the flume enters is higher than where it leaves.
27. Font – A black marble font 2’ in diameter sits on a 3’ high cylindrical pillar of the same material. Carvings of demonic figures adorn the sides of the font and the water inside it looks black and opaque, presumably an effect of the font’s material (checking will reveal the font contains unholy water).
