100 Gangs for Your Urban Campaigns

100 Gangs for Your Urban CampaignsCharacters will often visit fantasy cities for one thing or another, such as resupply, research and training, and cities are not always a safe place. As well as the legal side, there is also the illegal, and characters are quite likely to stumble across such.

This supplement has 100 different gangs that characters could encounter. They could clash with the gangs, resulting in a new enemy, seek them out for assistance or perhaps even look into joining one.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

51. Heartbreakers: A vicious gang of bravos, the Heartbreakers are only about half as good as they think they are when it comes to swordplay… still, that’s pretty good. While they dress in silks and velvet, and they talk a good game about duelist’s honor and the romance of the blade, when the swords come out there are no rules for a true Heartbreaker. Because when you’re the one who walks away from the fight, you can tell whatever story you like about how it really happened.

52. Penitents: Dressed in tattered robes and carrying heavy, hardwood staves, the Penitents collect “gifts of faith” from their neighborhoods. While they claim these gifts should be seen as signs of faith and repentance from worldly wrongs, everyone who lives in the shadow of this gang knows that the alternative to giving is purification by the rod. While some members of this gang are true believers in their purpose, most are just violent enforcers looking for an excuse to crack skulls while wrapping themselves in false righteousness.

53. The Vanguard: Made up mostly of ex-militia soldiers, the Vanguard isn’t thought of as a gang by many of the people who live in the neighborhoods it watches over. Instead, the shield patches
they wear on their jerkins, and the blackwood cudgels they carry at their belts, are seen as a necessary step to protect places where the city guard doesn’t want to patrol. Insular and aggressive, the Vanguard regularly harass people who aren’t from their  communities, looting merchants’ stores and stealing from members of other gangs once the Vanguard patrol has beaten them senseless. The colors and weapons of other gangs are often displayed as trophies, making it clear the Vanguard treats this more like sport than it does a serious effort in keeping their neighborhoods safe.
