Deserts are mysterious and sometimes deadly places to traverse, with heat and lack of water combining to kill the unwary. This supplement has 100 different encounters that a GameMaster can use to liven up a desert journey, or perhaps make it even more dangerous.
Some are interesting, some may lead to new places and some will be harmful to the unwary. The different encounters have been strongly influenced by Ancient Egypt, with lost pharaohs and hidden tombs, with an element of Arabia, but are suitable more most fantasy desert.
To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.
Here are some sample results:
46. Clouds quickly form and the temperature drops as a rain suddenly drenches the desert. In its aftermath, small flowers quickly bloom and grow, before seeding as the water rapidly dries up. The flowers are of a type that is reputed to have special properties (make a Common Knowledge roll with -1 to know this).
47. Crumbling limestone walls mark a small, abandoned fort out in the desert. The wooden doors of the fort have been torn off and lie in pieces on the sand outside. Inside, the fort shows signs of battle, with broken weapons and armour and various gnawed human bones. There is no central keep; instead, the various barracks, stables, storage and other buildings are built onto the insides of the walls.
48. Dead-looking low-lying shrubs covered in thorns prove to be bloodthirsty when approached. The branches will whip out at passing creatures, embedding thorns into them through which the plants, through the thorns which are hollow, will suck blood from their victims to provide sustenance (treat as Siren Bushes from the SWADE Fantasy Companion).
