100 Sci-Fi Foods

100 Sci-Fi FoodsIn the future, most people will still need to eat. This need will result in many different, and perhaps unusual, foods becoming available to buy

This supplement has 100 different foods that characters could buy, whether this be in the futuristic version of the bar, at a restaurant or simply provided for them as rations. The foods range from the workaday to the strange.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

27. Rip Crawler Legs: These terrifying, spider-like creatures are powerful enough to tear the sheet metal skin off of mining equipment, and it takes a round with some serious stopping power to crack through their shells, but the meat beneath is surprisingly tender and delicious. Dark blue, and run through with thick, red veins, Rip Crawlers are a delicacy outside of the communities
that regularly have to fend them off. Inside those communities, crawler is almost always on the menu, and it’s served in dozens of ways to be sure they don’t go to waste.

28. Belter’s Biscuits: Made from shredded roots held together with a bit of flour, and flash fried in oil, these breaded appetizers come in a wide variety of styles and flavors. Some biscuits are packed with cheese, giving them a melted core when they’re fried up. Others are filled with diced fungus, and then dipped in sauces ranging from spicy blends to sweet jellies. Popular in the asteroid belts, which is where they picked up their unique name, they’ve spread across the system from their original point of discovery.

29. Cherry Bombs: Small, red fruits found growing on the galactic rim, they’ve naturally evolved to detonate when they’re jostled too hard. This helps spread the seeds, forcing them to stick to a creature’s fur until the sap eventually hardens and crumbles away. The plants are a favorite in certain restaurants and taverns, where plucking a ripe cherry bomb is something of a game for the patrons. Of course, the drunker someone gets, the harder it is to pluck a cherry without it going off in their face, much to the amusement of the gathered watchers.
