Pits may often be built as traps to catch the unwary, but they may have other reasons for existence too. And even traps can have distinguishing features.
This supplement has 100 pits that can be used to decorate a dungeon, sometimes as just background colour, sometimes with hooks for more.
To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.
Here are some sample results:
56. Strange, occult symbols have been carved into every inch of the pit’s stone walls and floor (a CL 3 Intelligence check suggests these have no meaning).
57. Streaks of blood cover the sides of the pit, but oddly none of it has reached the floor.
58. Swarms of insects cover the walls and floor of the pit, crawling over everything and each other, and in sufficient numbers that they could pose a threat (treat as a summon swarm spell of flying beetles if annoyed).
