100 Encounters for a Fantasy Desert – Supplement for Zweihander RPG

100 Encounters for a Fantasy Desert - Supplement for Zweihander RPGDeserts can be sources of mystery. They may be home to strange civilisations, perhaps long-lost or perhaps still around after millennia. They can also be places of danger.

This supplement has 100 different encounters for a fantasy desert, with much inspiration taken from portrayals of Egyptian and Arabic deserts. There are places, people, creatures and things to encounter. Some may be potentially dangerous and other potentially beneficial. They can be used as a source of background colour or potential adventure hooks.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

44. A yipping cry during the night is followed by a squeal of pain, quickly silenced, as a desert cheetah catches its prey. If the sound is not tracked down, the next day bones and bits of flesh are being fed on by vultures.

45. Before the characters, a sinkhole suddenly opens up in the desert. The sinkhole rapidly widens and if characters or animals are not quick (a (Challenging -10%) Athletics Test) enough to move away from the edge they will be dumped into a limestone cave 30′ below the surface (see Falling in the Hazards & Healing chapter of the ZWEIHÄNDER: Revised Core Rulebook).

46. Clouds quickly form and the temperature drops as a rain suddenly drenches the desert. In its aftermath, small flowers quickly bloom and grow, before seeding as the water rapidly dries up. The flowers are of a type that is reputed to have special properties (a (Challenging -10%) Survival Test to know this).
