100 Hooks and Rumours for the Brecken Vale

100 Hooks and Rumours for the Brecken Vale

100 Hooks and Rumours for the Brecken ValeThe kids may hear different things when speaking to other people, and this supplement has 100 hooks and rumours for the lands of the Brecken Vale, and those beyond, as covered in the Brecken Vale Gazetteer.

They can be used by GameMaster’s as a source of adventure hooks, with different problems and issues for the kids to solve and get involved in.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

31. Invisible Beasts: Outlying farmsteads of the Brecken Vale have been having problems with strange beasts raiding their livestock. The depredations are becoming a serious problem and the farmers haven’t managed to even see the beasts responsible, let alone catch them. All they’ve found so far are massive clawed prints in the soil. A number of farmers send a mission to Rivenshore, asking for help from the jarl before they lose all their livestock. Sheriff Walt asks the kids to go to one of the farms to keep watch in the night. The kids can discover that the reason none of the farmers has seen the beasts is because they are in fact invisible. They will need to come up with a way of detecting invisible creatures so that they can be stopped.

32. Kobolds in the Pass: Kobolds have been seen on Dragon Pass in recent weeks, though they have always fled when spotted and are doing anything to avoid confrontation. It’s thought that the kobolds seen are only a portion of those who have been on the pass recently. Dragon Pass is near the lair of the dragon, Drexanathon, self-proclaimed ruler of the Brecken Vale, but it’s thought to be doubtful that he has anything to do with the kobolds. The kids are sent to investigate. Indeed, Drexanathon isn’t dealing with the kobolds in any form; instead, the kobolds are working on behalf of the Dragon Cult. The Cult has found secret passages near to Drexanathon’s lair and is exploring them to see if they prove useful, whether that is because of draconic relics in them or because of the potential access to Drexanathon.

33. Leviathan Wakes: Leviathan is a terror of the Ice-Bound Sea, smashing ships it encounters to splinters. The sea serpent is believed to be intelligent, as it also seeks treasure, and recently it appears to have been more active than usual. When survivors compared stories of attacks, though, it seemed that Leviathan was in more than one place at the same time and, moreover, had a different appearance. The kids are sent on a ship to discover if what is feared is true; that there is more than one Leviathan currently stalking the Ice-Bound Sea, both the original one and one that sounds to be smaller. Fortunately, this isn’t true; the second Leviathan is a pirate ship disguised with cunningly-wrought magic to appear like Leviathan, and the pirates are stealing treasure and capturing sailors.
