22. Grand Emperor Krial, the anointed leader of the Glorious Empire, spends most of his time in the Grand Palace on Syoakh. There are rumours, in fact, that no-one has seen the Emperor in person in some time, at least no-one outside the palace staff, the military generals and the Emperor’s immediate family, all of whom say that Krial is fine. Though some wonder if Krial is ill, or has perhaps even died, and this is being covered up.

23. Hakhui, the orange giant primary of the Oatre system, is gradually swallowing its inner gas giant, which makes it a point of scientific interest and sometimes scientists from the Hierate and the Imperial client state of Dostoevsky are allowed access. Such scientists are always the subject of extensive surveillance, and there are rumours of “incidents” in which scientists have been accused of spying, some of them never seen again.

24. Hankakho, the language created so that slaves within the Glorious Empire, contains a number of in-built structures intended to reinforce the subservience of its users. With many former slaves now free, linguists have been working to remove these structures. Though the majority of Hierate clans have supported these initiatives, some do not. They aren’t opposing them openly, as that might cause problems, but are working to undermine the attempts.
