100 More (Mostly) Harmless Goblin Fruits And Oddments To Find In The Hedge

100 More (Mostly) Harmless Goblin Fruits And Oddments To Find In The HedgeBreathtakingly beautiful, the Hedge can be a dazzling sight to some. However, more knowledgeable travelers know just how much danger can lie beneath its alluring surface. Wild, ever-changing and teeming with life, this land between the mortal world and Arcadia can be home to many things. Tricksey critters of chaos, sickeningly sweet plant life and treasures thought to be mere legends, the Hedge contains a great many wonders. Nevertheless, various useful things can be found growing anywhere amongst the Hedge’s vast wilderness and forests. Seeds that can heal the injured. Unique fruits that can physically alter someone’s very nature. Flowers that discern truth from lies. Plants that provide luck to anyone who carries them and mushrooms that are more alive than any “plant” ought to be.

The wide variety of Goblin Fruits and Oddments that can be found in the Hedge are near impossible to count, and more and more are constantly being discovered. The following examples can be added to any Changeling: The Lost Chronicle (1st or 2nd edition) as a helpful tool or even just to add flavor and sustenance to your story. Some fruits and oddments contained within are companion pieces to ‘100 (Mostly) Harmless Goblin Fruits And Oddments To Find In The Hedge’, by Neal Litherland.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

61. Razorwhip Willows: What at first glance can appear to be a beautiful red tinged weeping willow, closer inspection of these trees will reveal a dangerous and occasionally deadly Oddment. Razorwhip Willows are considered a hostile Oddment, as they will lash out at any living creature that comes near them, slashing at them with their razor-sharp branches. Oftentimes they are littered with the bones and carcasses of small or slower creatures, as they can slice through most flesh and hide, dealing 1 point of lethal damage per slash. The branches also move with surprising speed and fluidity, making them ideal weapons. As such, many Changelings have attempted to harvest them to use as whip-like weapons. However, that is no easy feat, and requires 3+ successes on an athletics roll to acquire a branch without taking damage. Once acquired, this makeshift weapon must immediately be infused with a point of glamour to make it obey the Changeling’s movements instead of blindly lashing out. It lasts for 24 hours before turning brittle and snapping like a dried twig. A Changeling must have at least 3 dots in the Weaponry skill (whip specialty) to successfully wield a Razorwhip branch as a weapon, without injuring themselves in the process.

62. Sweet Reliefs: These Goblin Fruits are a must have snack for dealing with chronic aches and pains, although they provide no actual healing effect oddly enough. When anyone consumes one of these tiny, crunchy fruits, they feel a warmth spread through their body, which instantly provides soothing relief to various aches and mild pains. While Sweet Reliefs can’t heal open wounds or other serious damage, they are always effective against internal aches and pains, from achy joints, to a bad knee, intense cramps, to the strongest of migraines. This makes them ideal for anyone who suffers from chronic pain conditions. They have often been described as having a chocolatey aftertaste with a hint of mint.

63. Corpse Fingers: An Oddment that appears just as creepy as its name suggests. Thick, bone-white vines that are often found overgrown on abandoned Trods and darker forested areas, these vines have grasping tendrils that resemble fingers sprouting from them that have a tendency to ensnare anything or anyone who gets too close. When something brushes against these “fingers”, they will clutch at whatever it is with a surprisingly strong grip, oftentimes tearing clothing or ripping out tufts of fur. Attempting to rip your way out of its grip often ends in becoming more tangled, so the best method to escape is slowly peeling back the fingers, which can be time consuming. As such, this can be inconvenient at the best of times, and downright fatal in the worst cases. Many Hobgoblins will harvest sections of Corpse Fingers to use as traps due to their ensnaring properties. Once harvested, the vines last for 8 hours before turning brittle and easily breakable.
