100 (Mostly) Harmless Goblin Fruits and Oddments to Find in The Hedge

100 (Mostly) Harmless Goblin Fruits and Oddments to Find in The HedgeIt lurks behind the cracks in reality. You glimpse it down broken alleyways, or through half-opened gates just as the sun starts going down. The Hedge. The between world of the fae, it is all that separates the real world from the denizens of Arcadia. No one can truly say how large the Hedge is, or isn’t. Distance, direction, and pedestrian concepts like linear time, simply don’t apply to that place. The Hedge is a place where thoughts and desires can be made manifest, and where all the darkest parts of our myths and legends go to roost while they wait for us to take one, wrong step.

There are wonders in the Hedge as well as terrors, though, for those who know how to navigate the brambles. There are fruits that can cure disease, and roots that can siphon any poison from the body. There are trees that will arm one for battle, and dangling fruits that will glow like a streetlight for those who give them a glamour.

For those storytellers looking to add to the unusual assortments of oddities and weirdness that can be found throughout the Hedge, this supplement is definitely for you!

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

80. Dryad’s Kiss: A small green berry, this fruit is found primarily on the limbs of older oaks in the deep Hedge, or in areas long held by the agents of Spring. A noted aphrodisiac, dryad’s kiss doesn’t have much of an effect on hobs and changelings. It does, however, send a mortal’s blood to singing in their veins. Harvesting glamour associated with desire from a mortal who has recently
eaten one of these berries yields an extra point of glamour. While some changelings will use the juice from these berries to spike a target’s drink, others are wary of using this goblin fruit clandestinely. Mortals can become obsessive and demanding while under the effects of dryad’s kiss, and that can lead to dangerous situations.

81. Fortune Flowers: A bashful oddment, these flowers remain closed until someone comes to ask their fortune. Some blow warm breath onto the flower, while others leave a drop of blood on the petals, but the flower needs a taste of someone before it can comb the skein of the Wyrd for their fate. Once the offering has been given, the flower opens up to show the pattern within. Deep
red is usually a sign of danger, pink a signal of opportunity and white with black veins a warning of impending death (or worse, one’s Keeper is drawing nigh). Once in the next 24 hours a changeling gains a bonus die on any dice pool associated with the reading given by a fortune flower, according to ST discretion. Multiple uses of these oddments in the same 24 hours do not stack.

82. Brewer’s Berries: Smelling like they’ve already been pickled in particularly strong spirits, these berries are each as potent as a shot glass of hard liquor. While some hobs and changelings collect them purely for this purpose, those who brew alcohol from these goblin fruits add +2 bonus dice to every dice pool involving Crafts for the brewing process. These bonus dice are only removed if they come up as 1s, so they should either be rolled separately, or be color-coded to stand out from the rest of the dice pool.
