100 Rumours to Hear in the Crescent Empire

100 Rumours to Hear in the Crescent EmpireCharacters may often hear rumours when asking around, whether or not the rumours are related to the information they are seeking. This supplement has 100 different rumours that characters could hear.

The rumours cover a range of topics such as plots, secrets, new discoveries and monsters. Whether or not an individual rumour is true is up to the GameMaster. They can be used as a source of misinformation, background colour and potential adventure hooks.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

39. Kadifekale is one of the cultural centres of Anatol Ayh, if not the whole empire, and many skilled artists, whether they be poet, painter, musician or weaver, live in and around the city. Recently, though, many artists have been producing art of a darker sort, depicting disturbing scenes and often giving a bad feeling to those that encounter the pieces. Strangely, this is occurring with artists who use different media, and they claim not to be collaborating with each other on the pieces. Each artist says that they have had visions which led them to create the pieces they did.

40. Mithaq Alqadim, the sorcery of the Tribes of the 8th Sea, depends on the users, the khadam, being able to entrust part of their self to another person, through a thiqa. Those who possess a khadim’s thiqa can turn the sorcerer’s art to ill. Recently, there have been rumours that a number of khadam have had their thiqa stolen from the person to whom they originally entrusted it. This sounds to be deliberate, as if some unknown party is trying to gain control of the sorcery of as many khadam as they can.

41. Lord Koray ibn Mazhar has reputedly been speaking to various other parties who are dissatisfied with Empress Safiye’s rule, no matter who those are. Those who are more on the fence, the lord has been attempting to manipulate with a web of deceit, suggesting that the empress is going to start seizing more power for herself from the local rulers and limit their powers in other ways, such as reducing the amount of troops they are allowed to maintain, increasing taxes on them and reducing their ability to collect them. Nothing has been outright treasonous or directly stated by Lord Koray, but he is planting seeds in people’s minds.
