100 Rumours to Hear on Urth II

100 Rumours to Hear on Urth IIThis is a collection of 100 different rumours that can be used with the official Urth setting for Shadow of the Demon Lord. These rumours can be discovered by characters who are asking around for information.

Some of the rumours are truthful, some are false and some are distortions, although all can be adjust by the GameMaster as appropriate. They may be used as a source of background colour for characters inquiring about other matters, as a source of potential adventure hooks or as hooks to get characters to visit new locations.

To use the rumours, either roll d100 for a random result or select suitable ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

56. Recently there have been signs of increasing numbers of scarred and mutilated people cropping up in major cities. What’s weird about them is that all the injuries appear to be self-inflicted. These injuries have reportedly only been seen by accident, when clothing slipped, and the marks have been quickly hidden again. Which does lead to another question – how many people are there like this who haven’t been discovered or noticed? Presumably many more. And what would lead people to self-mutilate in this way?

57. Representatives from Kem in the Confederacy of Nine Cities, or perhaps more precisely from the Vault, have been visiting the Lord of Castaron, the city that is one of Balgrendia’s two ports. It was thought that Lord Castaron IX was looking into selling out to the Confederacy and joining it, but it seems there may be more to it than that. Reportedly, there has been an increase in the number of troops seen in the Sinking City, out of town mercenaries from all appearances. The Confederacy may be planning to seize far more of Balgrendia that Castaron.

58. Sailors from more than a few ships that have recently docked in a number of the Confederacy’s cities have made claims about a bizarre fleet they have seen in the distance. The ships did not look to be made of wood and their sales were ragged enough that it was surprising they could make way. Some sailors even claimed that the ships were crewed by the dead, not the living.
