Agents and Assets: 100 Personnel and Contacts For Task Force VALKYRIE

Agents and Assets: 100 Personnel and Contacts For Task Force VALKYRIEThey exist as little more than whispers and rumors to most people. Men and women in black suits who show up to a location faster than emergency services personnel, take people and evidence into custody, and then vanish into thin air. Masked strike teams with blacked-out tactical gear, or uniformed personnel whose badges and phone numbers all lead to dead ends, the stories all share elements of danger, threat and anonymity. If someone asks too many questions about who they are, or what they were doing, that person is told in no uncertain terms to drop it. Some do, and pretend nothing ever happened. Others keep digging, only to find out too late that they’ve dug their own grave, and no one will ever find them.

They’re called a lot of things by a lot of different people. Spooks. Operatives. Men in Black. At the end of the day, though, the members of Task Force VALKYRIE are some of the most highly-trained, highly-effective hunters in the world. Able to hold the line against vampires, demons, mages and gods, they represent a force deadly enough to give even the most arrogant of supernatural creatures pause.

Beyond the bleeding edge technology the task force can field, and beyond their ability to call on the best of the best from every corner of the United States armed forces and law enforcement, are the networks the conspiracy has put in place. Informants are placed in every news network, and have been seeded across emergency services personnel all around the country. Contractors and mercenaries who have proven their worth are ready to respond to the conspiracy’s call at a moment’s notice, knowing exactly how deep their pockets go, and there are judges, police chiefs and lawyers who will make sure all evidence of the task force’s activities vanish from the official record.

The following NPCs are meant to help flesh out Hunter: The Vigil chronicles where Task Force VALKYRIE plays a role. Whether the conspiracy is meant to be a looming, background force that the characters only have tangential contact with, the player characters’ cell is a part of TFV and acting on its behalf, or somewhere in between, Storytellers will be able to draw characters from this list. The NPCs might be allies, antagonists or both depending on the circumstances of your chronicle.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

59. Christopher Rinaldo: A fashion designer before he took up the Vigil, Rinaldo is an armorer for Task Force VALKYRIE. While he has a flair for the dramatic that he refused to leave behind in Milan, his eye for detail is unparalleled, and his unique thought process has saved more than a few hunters. Almost as important as the aesthetic details, though, is the fact that tailored protection and equipment always holds up better in the field, and he insists on outfitting agents as personally as possible. While he has clashed with some hunters over the years, even the most recalcitrant fashion disasters have to admit that the clothes and equipment Christopher customizes for them performs better than standard-issue gear… and sometimes all they need is that small edge when life is balanced on the edge of a ticking second hand.

60. Rhiannon Carpenter: A first responder, Rhiannon was in even more danger than she understood every time she climbed into her ambulance and set off with the sirens blaring. It was only a matter of time until a call led her to deal with something worse than a strung-out addict, or an unmedicated, unhoused person, though. In fact, she almost wound-up dead at the hands of a recently-resurrected Promethean whose maker had abandoned her when she saw how terrible the thing she’d wrought truly was. Rhiannon still has a limp from that encounter, but the fact that she survived, and managed to kill the thing that had assaulted her, got her a job offer when task force personnel arrived on the scene. Now she’s part of one of the conspiracy’s crash units, and she’s always waiting in the wings when there’s a major operation going on that’s going to require medical support.

61. Dr. Hamilton Hills: A florid-faced man with a thick mane of hair and an impressive beard, “Ham” is a biologist of some renown. He was conducting studies on the reintroduction of wolves across North America when he came across evidence of a variety of creatures that shared traits with wolves, but which were decidedly different creatures. When deadly incidents took place, Dr. Hills had to fight for his life against a creature that seemed to move like smoke, which instantly regenerated from what should have been crippling wounds, and which had a bite force strong enough to warp steel. Task Force VALKYRIE interviewed him after the experience, and noted his excitement rather than horror at what had happened. He was given a position offer, as well as financial backing, to dig deeper into these creatures and where they came from. Though his hair and beard have largely gone gray, and he has several puckered scars from his time in the field, his zest for studying deadly creatures hasn’t waned. If anything, it’s gotten even more intense!
