Children of The Night: 100 Animal Ghouls

Children of The Night: 100 Animal GhoulsSince before the written word the kindred have dwelt in the shadows of the world. Rarely willing to trust one another, even those with ties of bloody parentage, many of the kindred have used the vitae in their veins to bind mortal servants to them. Their vitae conveys strength, speed and long life, and it gives the kindred a hold over them… but even so humans can be treacherous servants at the best of times.

To that end many kindred will bind lesser creatures to their will. While they may not be as clever as humans, these bestial ghouls often have other qualities that make them desirable. They may be stronger, faster or more vicious, able to defend their masters more ferociously. They may be stealthier, smaller and better at watching and listening. They might be majestic, acting as both a herald and a symbol for the kindred in question. And many times, the bond between a kindred and their animal may be a solace to them; something that allows them to hold the Beast within themselves at bay for one more night.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

81. Percy: Just as odd-looking at his mistress, this platypus is pampered by Regina Nocturne. Treating him almost like a baby, Percy is often seen wearing a jeweled collar, and let loose to splash about in fountains regardless of where they happen to be. While his spines (and the venom therein) aren’t an issue for Regina, or indeed for any other kindred, there are more than a few mortals who have suffered the agony of Percy’s stings when they’ve tried to lay hands on him without his mistress’s permission.

82. Nimbus: Those who know the reputation of Marcus Graccus Augustus often think his pet would be as disciplined and dangerous as he is. Nimbus, though, is a small pile of impossibly soft fluff. The chinchilla was a gift from one of his childer many years ago, and few of his servants actually expected him to keep the creature. It is one of the only reminders he has of her, now. While most are certain that Cleo is dead, her body has never been found, and Marcus insists he’s merely keeping Nimbus in good health until she returns. Even he doesn’t seem to believe that anymore, though, and he treats Nimbus with the care and courtesy he would have given to Cleo were she still with him.

83. Holston: Originally acquired by Phillip Black, Holston was something of a hobby to his master for many years. The orangutan now has the freedom to wander his master’s estate, often greeting guests and leading them to reception areas. Holston will even play checkers with visitors, though only if he’s allowed to take the red pieces. Far from timid, Holston isn’t what most would consider
aggressive… unless someone threatens his master, that is. If that happens then it’s likely the ape’s more savage nature will show itself, which can result in some rather horrifying wounds to those who roused his ire.
