D10: Cold and Ice Campsites to Encounter

Characters may need to find a place to camp whilst travelling, especially in cold regions, and this list has ten such campsites that are suitable for cold, snowy and icy regions.

  1. A hole has been dug into the snow, presumably by a large animal, given the size of the hole and the musky smell coming from it. The hole is easily large enough for several people.
  2. Corner of a ruined stone building, all that remains of what used to stand there.
  3. Jumble of broken ice blocks that have an area beneath them that’s out of the wind and weather.
  4. Lump of ice that’s tall enough to provide a degree of shelter from the elements, though it’s cold to be near.
  5. Partly collapsed igloo, whose roof has fallen in on one side, but which still mostly provides protection from the weather.
  6. Several ice-covered rocks form a rough circle, with snow built up between the gaps.
  7. Small cave, with an entrance partly blocked by fallen snow.
  8. Small dell, surrounded by snow on all sides.
  9. Snow has been blown into high drifts, with a hollow between them that’s out of the wind.
  10. Toppled tree that has fallen thanks to the weight of snow on its branches. The tree’s trunk and roots, together with the hollow where it stood, provide shelter.
