10 Hooks and Rumours for Cyberpunk 2.0.2.0.’s Europe
This list has ten hooks and rumours that can be heard about Italy. Whether or not they are true is up to the GameMaster. They can be used as background colour or as potential adventure hooks.
- Europa Sur has a strong presence in Naples but strained relations with the Camorra. It’s said that their relationship with the Mafia is significantly better, and that relations with the Camorra, as a result, may deteriorate even further into violence, perhaps hidden, perhaps overt.
- Milan may be overshadowed by Rome, but the city is the economic centre of the entire country. It’s rumoured that the city prefers to keep somewhat in the background, when it comes to its influence on anything but fashion, so that anyone with problems will attack Rome instead.
- Most corporations have been kept out of Sicily by the Mafia, though Sardinia and much of the south are corporate controlled. The Camorra is greedier than the Mafia, and has less popular support. It’s rumoured that the Mafia are considering making a move on the Camorra, in order to free their mainland cousins from the corporations.
- Naples is the most dangerous city in Italy and possibly in Europe itself, with robberies, assaults and kidnapping. The Camorra has failed to do more than turn the streets into a battlefield. It’s rumoured that security corporations find the current situation to their benefit, providing a never-ending stream of jobs, and have little interest in seeing things improve.
- Palermo is a quiet city and the power centre of the Mafia, and no illegal actions are allowed unless done by the government, which makes them not illegal. The city is also not hospitable to foreigners, who will often be harassed by young toughs. It’s rumoured that bad things happen to foreigners who push their luck in the city.
- Rome is no longer what it once was, but it is still a draw for tourists. It’s said that some within the city want to divert money to it to rebuilding its glory so that it can make even more income from the tourists that come to it, but few actual Romans are interested in the idea.
- The Catholic Church has recently softened their approach towards cybernetic enhancements, and it’s said that this has made the Swiss Guard even more dangerous. It’s also rumoured that the attitude has not merely softened, and that some of the Guard are now enhanced to a degree just below cyberpsycho.
- The Nuovu Mafia is believed to be a sign that the current sort-of unity that Italy has is on the verge of completely collapsing into several different countries, as the different regions all go their own way. It’s said that others in Europe are watching the situation carefully, for what it might do to Italy and Europe and how it might inspire others to try similar things in their own countries.
- The traditional vineyards and olive groves of southern Italy’s insular region are the basis of the area’s economy, which means that a report of blight amongst them recently has raised fears. There are suggestions this may be an acti of deliberate sabotage intended to hurt the region.
- The Wortrac Consortium helps keep the monumental Italian cities in a state so that they can continue to bring in tourist revenue. It’s rumoured that Wortrac is unwilling to accept anything that could endanger their revenue stream from this, and will use any means necessary to deal with potential problems.
