D10: The Strange Rumours – Recursions: New Centropolis II

WorldsThe Strange is a game published by Monte Cook Games. It is, at least in part, set in the normal world, but there are other worlds out there, in the Strange. This list has ten rumours for that setting, similar to the various different adventure hooks in the books, and these can be used as adventure hooks or simple misinformation.

  1. Calamity was once part of the supervillain group created by Doctor Amazing, the Conquerors. Since the team fell apart, as supervillain teams are wont to do, he, like the others, has been acting alone. However, it’s rumoured that Calamity has been reaching out to some of his former teammates, and to some new supervillains, with the aim of reconstituting the Conquerors for a major job.
  2. Galaxia, one of the Spectaculars, is often called the smartest person on the planet, spending most of her time in the labs in Spectaculars Sanctuary. It’s rumoured that recently Galaxia has essentially sealed herself into the labs, working feverishly on something and refusing to come out to deal with any other matters.
  3. Ghostmancer is a new villain of the New Centropolis underworld, and there are rumours that he’s surprisingly powerful for a comparative unknown. It’s said that Ghostmancer has been reaching out to some other, lesser, villains, offering cooperation to them in exchange for favours.
  4. It’s rumoured that Nightmare Chill is assembling a team of villains for one last big score, after which she plans to retire from supervillaining. It’s also rumoured that some of the team are actually heroes who have decided that helping the supervillain is the easiest way of taking her out of the picture.
  5. Mister Genocide is a villain whose very presence causes those around him to become ill, though he’s usually more concerned with robbing banks than making people ill, though he doesn’t hesitate about killing if needed. However, it’s rumoured that he’s recently started branching out into murder for hire, finding this an easier way of making money than bank robbery.
  6. Radioactive Girl exploded, sacrificing herself to stop the alien Karasang. Though nothing was left of Radioactive Girl, and a large crater marks the site of the explosion and where the original Centropolis used to stand, a few have claimed to have seen her ghost in the crater.
  7. Robot Lad, one of the Spectaculars, has built a fleet of drones to help defend the Spectaculars’ skyscraper on Broadway, as the place is a magnet for supervillain attacks. It’s rumoured that during one of the most recent attacks that Robot Lad briefly lost control of some of the drones to another force, something that could be very worrying, especially as the robots had always seemed to be immune to such.
  8. The previous leader of the Spectaculars, Silver Torch, was killed by a supervillain team assembled by Doctor Amazing, the Conquerors. There are rumours, though, that Silver Torch wasn’t outright killed, just seriously injured, and he’s currently hidden in a medical bay in Spectaculars Sanctuary.
  9. The Spectaculars own a magnificent skyscraper on Broadway, which houses a number of superhumans including the Spectaculars themselves. It’s rumoured that the businesses and apartments near street level or on occasion taken over by the fronts of supervillains who are seeking to gain information on what the superheroes are up to.
  10. The supervillain Gearbox and the Spectacular Robot Lad both build mechanical automatons, though Gearbox makes large war machines intended to destroy. It’s rumoured that a clash is building up between the two different superpowered individuals, and that this clash could see machine fighting machine in battle.
