Numenera is a game published by Monte Cook Games. Its setting is the Ninth World, and this list has eight rumours for that setting. The rumours, which are similar to the Hearsay that can be found in the official books, can be used as adventure hooks or as simple misinformation.

1. It’s rumoured that the octopus queen currently has a clutch of eggs at the Coral Cathedral, having recently decided to breed, something she does rarely though free to do so. There are suggestions that external events were behind the queen choosing to breed at this time.
2. It’s rumoured that there’s a large city of octopi around the Coral Cathedral that’s one of the homes to the queen of the octopi. Some have claimed that this is actually an army, waiting to launch an attack on land, though they seem unclear as to why such an attack would happen.
3. It’s said that the octopi of the Coral Cathedral have modified creatures into monsters that they use to defend the place from interlopers, and that any living creature who falls foul of the octopi may end up the same way. It’s even rumoured that trespassing humans have been turned into combinations of fish and person.
4. The Coral Cathedral is said to be one of the homes of the queen of the octopi, and some have claimed it’s one that’s the most vulnerable to attack, and that therefore an attack should be launched on it. Most believe that attacking the octopi would be a seriously foolish move.
5. The octopi are said to have a collection of books, by their use of the word, in the Coral Cathedral, containing knowledge going back millennia, if not millions of years. Some scholars on land would pay dearly for just one of these books, if not more.
6. The octopi of the Bay of Peyclin are only superficially loyal to the octopus queen, but some of the human nations, tired of attacks by these octopi on ships and even land settlements, want to send an emissary to the queen to see if she can do anything to reign in the attacks.
7. The yobi of the Coral Cathedral are rumoured to be looking to make overtures to some of the seafaring peoples of the area, though why isn’t known, as the octopi are typically not that interested in others.
8. There are rumours that the Coral Cathedral has a portal to another dimension located within it. Some have sought proof of this, and especially a means of entering that dimension, to discover just what kinds of treasures the octopi may have stored there.
