100 Descriptions for Rings

100 Descriptions for RingsIn a fantasy setting, rings are often very common, and are frequently a source of magical power, as well as being normal treasure.

This supplement has 100 different descriptions for rings that a GameMaster can use to enliven them. These descriptions can be used to make treasure more interesting, be used to describe magical items, and some are aimed at certain ones, or be used as a source of potential adventure hooks as players attempt to understand the oddities that some of the rings possess.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

38. This ring has a thick gold band with a claw mounting at the front in which is a cut and polished bit of sedimentary rock. In the rock is a tiny fossil, an ammonite. The stone has been carefully carved and polished to sow the ammonite spiral in detail, and the rock has also been slightly removed around the fossil to make it stick partially out of the stone.

39. This ring has a rose gold band with a pattern of flames etched into it. The gold’s colour within the flames is redder than that of the rest of the ring, suggesting that it has a higher concentration of copper there. Mounted on the ring’s front in a claw grip is a deep red ruby, into the front face of which has been carved a stylised flame.

40. This polished dark steel ring has a slightly oily texture to its feel as well as to its appearance, as there is a shimmering rainbow beneath the surface like oil on water. The ring slides easily around the wearer’s finger and always feels loose and yet it is never in any danger of falling off. The front of the ring has a round, flat bezel not much wider than the band and with smooth shoulders joining it to the ring. The bezel is made from several concentric steel circles, that freely move around.
