100 Dungeon Myths, Legends and Rumours

100 Dungeon Myths, Legends and RumoursCharacters may often explore dungeons but they may also need a reason to visit them in the first place.  This supplement has 100 different rumours, myths and legends that they could hear about a local dungeon.

The rumours cover a range, about legendary items, lost adventurers, dangerous monsters and dungeon features. Whether an individual rumour is true is up to the GameMaster. They could be used as background flavour, misinformation or as potential adventure hooks.

To use the rumours, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

31. At the bottom of the dungeon a passage connects to a long underground route. The route has been carved out of the living rock and stretches for hundreds of miles, if not more. It is dozens of feet wide and high and is used by various underground races as a means of travel between various strongholds and cities, routes to which branch off the road. On the road there is a truce between all races, or at least all underground-dwelling races. No race will attack another and risk damaging the trade route. Of course, all bets are off once the main path has been departed, and some creatures attempt to trick others into leaving the path.

32. A vast cavern has a floor that is covered in yellowish-white things, that can quickly be identified as being bones. The bones lie many feet deep on the floor, and the bottom layers have turned to powder. The cavern is said to be where an unknown creature, for only its bones have been found, comes to die. The creatures consider the cavern to be holy ground and will not tolerate intruders.

33. A well in one of the rooms is filled with a surging, multi-coloured liquid. The liquid will occasionally splash over the well’s side, and harden into tiny gems, causing it to be theorised that the liquid is made from liquified gemstones. Sometimes there is a more violent eruption, and any creature standing too close to the well will be doused in the liquid, and be encased in a rapidly-hardening gemstone, and will soon perish if they cannot be freed. Gemstone statues of this nature are rumoured to decorate the interior of some of the wealthy houses in the area.
