100 Histories and Legends for Fantasy Weapons

100 Histories and Legends for Fantasy WeaponsWeapons in fantasy settings can often be only as interesting as their stats and powers. Rather than some fabled weapon like Glamdring, characters simply get a longsword +2,

This supplement has 100 different descriptions to make fantasy weapons more interesting. The histories of some of these items can lead to potential adventure hooks. Some weapons have their type described in detail, whilst others are referred to more generally.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

83. Stone of Aeons – A stone weapon that has actually been fashioned from the fossilised limb of an elder being. If the weapon is closely examined, the organic nature of the limb can be seen within the rock. Wielders have sometimes claimed that holding the weapon gives them strange dreams, of a time before any of the younger races gained prominence, before even the time of elves.

84. Stone of the Water – This weapon has a stone blade which is, despite the material, sharp and far stronger than it should be. It is rumoured that the blade wasn’t carved, but was found in a river, apparently having been naturally shaped by the water. It is a weapon that it considered to be sacred to the goddess of rivers, as her followers believe she had the water shape it.

85. Storm Blade – A weapon with a jagged, lightning-shaped blade made of blue-tinged steel with tiny sapphires set into the base of the blade where it meets the hilt. The shape of the blade makes it look impractical to use, but it is far easier to wield than its appearance suggests. Every time Storm Blade is drawn, it gives a slight static shock to its wielder; it is rumoured that if the weapon is sheathed for too long, the shock received can prove fatal.
