100 Snow and Ice Encounters

100 Snow and Ice EncountersAt some point, the characters may venture into colder regions. These could be the frozen areas close to the poles, the tops of icy mountains or simply temperate or colder climes during the winter.

This supplement provides 100 different encounters characters could have in such regions. Some of these are potentially useful, others are potentially dangerous and some are simply puzzling. They can be used as a source of background flavour for such locations or, in some cases, as potential adventure hooks.

The supplement also comes in a Pathfinder-compatible version. You do not need both versions.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

36. Between the tops of two cliffs stretches a bridge made of ice. The bridge is at least a hundred feet above the ground and can be easily passed under but, when anything does pass under the bridge, large icicles plummet from it, potentially hitting anything below.

37. Blocks of ice have been formed into a replica of a stone circle, but made from ice. The circle is 50’ in diameter and the blocks have been formed into trilithons. In the centre of the circle is a single block of ice, about 8’ long by 4’ wide and 4’ high. This altar-like block has an upper surface that appears to be stained red with blood.

38. Bright sunshine has warmed the top layers of the snow and melted them slight, turning them slushy. This makes travel much more difficult, as the snow is too slushy for snowshoes and skis and travelling on foot will require wading through a couple of feet of semi-solid material. The slushy snow will also soak footwear and clothing.
