In any setting that is reasonably close to modern, whether this be a few years old, current or following some kind of apocalypse, there will be businesses to be found and possibly searched.

This supplement has 100 businesses for characters to encounter. All of them are small, local businesses and not part of chains. In older settings, they are more common in city centres, but can still be found in outlying areas even later. Each is named and given a brief description.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

91. The Old Sweet Shop: The interior of this shop has a deliberately old-fashioned feel, with shelves and counter made from dark stained wood. Rows and rows of glass bottles are filled with colourful sweets, with the majority being older types, in particular hard sweets. Sweets are sold by weight in small paper bags, rather than in pre-filled bags, and the scale matches the rest of the shop in style, being large and clearly old, though very well maintained and regularly checked.

92. The Tavern: Essentially, a hole in the wall pub in town that caters to the office trade, mostly after hours and at lunchtime. They sell a range of beers and spirits, with usually a couple of guest ales, but don’t have much in the way of food beyond packet snacks and some pre-prepared sandwiches. This is a place where people mostly come to drink and unwind after work before heading home.

93. The Wool Shop: This sells a wide range of wools in different colours and types, as well as patterns, knitting needles and other related items. It also has a range of needlework supplies, from tapestries to cross stitch, including kits, yarn and frames. The customers cover a wide range of ages, thanks to the owner’s attempts to keep on top of what is fashionable in knitwear and running classes to help people get started.
