100 Space Landmarks

100 Space LandmarksSpace is big enough that there can be a vast range of strange and weird things in it. This supplement has 100 different noteworthy space locations.

These range from being tens of miles long to those many light years across. They range from clearly artificial constructions, to natural items to those that could be either. Some have a clear function; others are far more inexplicable. These can be a source of oddities or potential adventure hooks.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

37. The Gun – This is a seamless metal artefact made of an unknown alloy that has proven resistant to damage. The overall shape is of a 100-mile-long cylinder, with a slightly wider 10’ long cylinder attached to one end. The appearance is reminiscent of a gun barrel, albeit one that is solid. Approaching the artefact is hazardous, as there are still-active point defences that destroy almost everything that approaches.

38. Harvest Moon – This moon orbits quite closely to a gas giant, skimming above its upper atmosphere. Projecting from the surface of the moon are a number of tubes made from some type of woven
diamond fibre. The tubes all point towards the gas giant and, despite their strength, they all appear to have been snapped off. Inside the moon, the tubes lead into some sort of facility, one that was abandoned long ago and from which all the equipment has clearly been removed. The theory is that the moon was being used to harvest material from the gas giant.

39. The Haunted Sector – Ships travelling through this region sometimes report receiving messages from other ships, even though there are none that can be detected. The messages are usually of poor quality, with substantial interference, but uniformly appear, for those that can be understood, to be requesting help with something unknown. On occasion, a ship’s name can be understood, and if these ships can be tracked down, they are always discovered to be ones that were lost without trace and no survivors.
