100 Underearth Locations

100 Underearth Locations

100 Underearth LocationsNot all dungeons or underground explorations are done in areas that have been constructed. Some might take place in areas that are partially or wholly natural in nature.

This supplement has 100 different locations that can be used to flesh out an underground area, whether to create an entire underearth realm or add extra areas to a deep dungeon. The locations are named and described and can be a source of potential adventure hooks, or potential danger.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

34. Eyebiter’s Caves: There is nothing in the caves that actually bite the eyes; the name comes from the guano that fills them. The area is home to thousands of bats and the caves have built up large amounts of guano on the floor as a result. The amount of guano creates eye-watering gasses which is how the caves got their name, and seeing in them without eye protection is difficult. Sometimes the gasses build up to dangerous levels, but they eventually seep away. A few of the underearth civilisations harvest the guano for use on their fungal farms, and heavily-protected guano collectors can sometimes be encountered.

35. Forest of Giant Mushrooms: A large cavern filled with a mushroom forest. The mushrooms are of unusually large size, with the largest and oldest of them reaching over 30′ into the air. The biggest mushrooms have a tough, woody texture and are no good for eating but are useful as a construction material. Some of the smaller mushrooms, and those that grow on the larger fungi, are edible, but a few are also poisonous. The cavern is often visited by groups seeking to harvest the mushrooms for food and construction material.

36. Forgettable Mine: A rich gold mine that is generally not known by this name because the name is quite accurate and most creatures do not even know it exists. The deep dwarves who work the mine are the ones who know it by this name. Others who visit the mine normally forget about its existence soon after leaving. An enchantment was placed by a powerful mage to keep the mine’s existence secret, as it is sited some way from the major deep dwarf citadels and is hard to defend as a result. By ensuring most do not remember its existence, the deep dwarves are able to reduce potential attacks.
