Peer into times long gone by with 100 Volcanic Landmarks, a system-agnostic supplement detailing 100 fantasy locations shaped by volcanic activity. These locations ranged from strange formations of rock with a few small rumors to ancient supervolcanoes that have tapestries of attached legends. Many of these locations also come with a short description of the surrounding area as well, allowing you to easily find a corresponding location in whatever world your game is set in so you can drop one of these landmarks right in! Any of these locations can easily be the focal point of an adventure, and some of them have enough material to weave a campaign around-or become the start of a new region of your world that you didn’t know you needed! The only limit is your imagination!

96. The Hissing Garden of Phakoriae: Deep in the wild lands far from the light, warmth and protection of civilization, millennia-old trees shelter a still older caldera beneath their thick canopy. This caldera is one thousand feet wide by ten feet deep at its lowest point. Scattered throughout it are formations of igneous rock that look eerily like people, complete with suggestions of faces that seem to be screaming. Anyone who approaches the caldera and listens closely will hear a soft choir of hisses with an unpredictable cadence. Legends hold that, long ago, the medusa Phakoriae lived in the caldera, and the humanoid-like rock formations are her petrified victims. These same legends say that the hissing comes from the serpents who are Phakoriae’s descendants; and indeed, serpents gather more numerously around the caldera than they do in other parts of the forest. Some foolhardy bands of adventurers have set off in search of Phakoriae herself, believing that she was somehow still alive. All of these bands disappeared, and no one can say whether or not the number of rock formations in the caldera increased.
97. The Emerald Sanctum: This shield volcano is located deep within the world’s hottest, most inhospitable desert. It is so remote that many doubt whether or not this place exists at all. Those who believe in this place say that it is called the Emerald Sanctum because it is ruled by a genie from the elemental plane of earth who is very fond of emeralds and is said to have enormous quantities of these gems, all flawless; it is enough wealth that even the richest merchant lord is a pauper by comparison. Anyone able to find the Emerald Sanctum and take its wealth would surely be able to turn the desert into a thriving trade region. But who is brave enough to make such a perilous journey guided solely by rumors?
98. The Gray Solace: Much like an ugly scar on otherwise thriving skin, this scrap of gray desert is located at the center of a large forest and spans about twenty miles. Multiple now-collapsed stratovolcanoes are scattered throughout it; it is because of the volcanoes that the desert exists. The desert is called the Gray Solace because predators, animals and people alike, from the surrounding forest won’t enter it. Animals get skittish upon approaching the desert, and there are many rumors of eerie happenings. However, those seeking to escape pursuit and are willing to brave the inhospitable terrain and strange happenings will easily find shelter here.
