100 Encounters for a Fantasy Desert (Lore 100)

100 Encounters for a Fantasy Desert (Lore 100)Deserts are mysterious and sometimes deadly places to traverse, with heat and lack of water combining to kill the unwary. This supplement has 100 different encounters that a GameMaster can use to liven up a desert journey, or perhaps make it even more dangerous.

Some are interesting, some may lead to new places and some will be harmful to the unwary. The different encounters have been strongly influenced by Ancient Egypt, with lost pharaohs and hidden tombs, with an element of Arabia, but are suitable more most fantasy desert.

The supplement also comes in the following versions: Pathfinder and system neutral. You do not need all versions.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

72. Several tall pillars of black stone rise from the desert here. Each pillar appears to be natural and they are at most four feet in diameter. On top of one of the pillars is a stylite wearing a simple robe. He will ignore any who get to the top of the pillar to speak to him and will never be observed to move. Each of the other pillars has a few scattered bones on its top.

73. Small scorpions erupt from the ground when it is stepped on. Although small, they have a dangerous venom and any creature lacking adequate foot protection may get stung (make an Average Athletics roll to avoid being stung by a scorpion unless wearing thick leather or metal footwear and an Average Endurance roll to avoid being affected by the poison if that is failed; failure of both results in gaining the Poisoned, PHQ condition).

74. Standing at the base of a dune is a mirror about 6’ tall by 3’ wide in a wooden frame. The mirror can be seen reflecting the light from some distance away. When the mirror is approached, it is definitely odd. Any creature looking into the mirror is reflected, but it looks as if they are standing in fertile farmland, not a barren desert.
