100 Avian Beasts

100 Avian Beasts

100 Avian BeastsCharacters may encounter a variety of creatures whilst travelling, from the curious to the dangerous, and this supplement has 100 avian creatures for them to encounter.

Just because these are avian beats does not mean they are all birds, though, as there are a selection of other creatures that have wings.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

81. Bat Maiden: These particular avian creatures have startled many an adventurer with their unusual appearance. Bat Maidens are odd little bats the size of a humming bird with the scaled body and
head of a reptile. A thin layer of fuzzy fur covers their back and runs a tiny mohawk over their heads. The truly alarming feature is their beautiful song that resembles the voice of a fair human maiden singing. Adventurers often receive bounties to rescue fair maidens that have been trapped in caves, only to find a chorus of happy Bat Maidens serenading them.

82. Blind Marauder: Explorers beware the sound of shuffling and tapping deep in the darkest corners of caves. Blind Marauders stand at halfling height with long thick legs strong enough to kick a full-grown horse to death. They are completely blind, as they do not have eyes. They rely on the thermal pits on their beaks that allow them to read heat signatures, and their hearing is excellent.
They prey on rats and other small creatures and will attack any living thing that invades their territory. It’s best to throw them a hunk of meat and turn tail; Blind Marauders always fight to the death.

83. Tawny Bellow: A distant cousin of the Hiccup Lizard, the Tawny Bellow is a reptile often mistaken for a dragon, but this cousin can breathe true fire. These odd lizards have a startling mottled red-orange patterned scaling on their bodies and striking red wing membranes that unfold from their armpits. Tawny Bellows are named after the blacksmith bellows, as they are often captured by miners and sold to blacksmiths to tend their fires. Tawny Bellows eat coal, and grow in size over time depending on the scarcity or abundance of food. Some grow in size to rival that of a true dragon, but most are captured and sold before they can become larger than a dog.
