At some point, the characters may venture into colder regions. These could be the frozen areas close to the poles, the tops of icy mountains or simply temperate or colder climes during the winter.
This supplement provides 100 different encounters characters could have in such regions. Some of these are potentially useful, others are potentially dangerous and some are simply puzzling. They can be used as a source of background flavour for such locations or, in some cases, as potential adventure hooks.
The supplement also comes in a system-neutral version. You do not need both versions.
To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.
Here are some sample results:
29. A rock outcropping has had a niche carved into the rock. Inside this niche is a small, irregular rock that can be identified with the right skills as being a meteorite (DC 25 Knowledge (arcana)). There are a number of bones around the front of the niche, suggestive of offerings. Some of the bones can be identified as human in nature. The overall effect is that of a shrine
to the meteorite.
30. A series of trenches, 2’ deep, have been cut in circles in the ice. They surround a small castle that stands maybe 20’ tall at its highest point. The castle is a single wall surrounding a keep. It all looks like a siege encampment, albeit empty, except the castle itself is constructed from blocks of ice.
31. A solitary tree appears to be thinly iced over. If the tree is touched, it is found to be painfully cold (DC 10 Fortitude check or take 1d3 hp damage), and has frozen solid. If the tree is handled harshly, branches and leaves will simply snap off or shatter; it appears to have been exposed to temperatures well below normal that have instantly frozen it.
