100 Knightly Orders

100 Knightly OrdersEven though knights may be encountered alone, to truly be a knight requires membership of an order. This supplement has 100 different orders that characters could encounter, as friend or perhaps foe, or could possibly join.

The stereotypical knight is an armoured fighter on horseback, but in a fantasy setting there are more possibilities. Those with other abilities than martial could also have their own orders, with rather different goals and ways of fighting to the more typical knight.

To use the orders, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample orders:

35. The Ministers of the Broken Blade: The Ministers are recruited from other knightly orders, either when members are no longer deemed worthy, or when they dishonor themselves in the eyes of their peers. Ministers break their old swords when taking their oaths of service, vowing vigilance and willingness to do what it takes to ensure victory and preservation. Even if other knights would balk at the methods they’re willing to use, or the lengths they’re willing to go to in order to ensure their victory, the ministers will see their tasks through to the bitter end.

36. The Little Brothers and Sisters of the Shining Hoard: An order originally empowered by a dragon emperor to help maintain his vast holdings, these kobolds are extremely efficient administrators,
librarians and, when required, warriors. While the order has allowed non-kobolds to join if they serve a term of dedication to prove themselves and their skills, the masters of the order have so far been entirely of scalykind. And while their original master may no longer rule the way he once did, they still serve as emissaries, collectors and preservers of the achievements and accomplishments of the great dragons so they are never truly forgotten.

37. The Knights of the Yellow Lotus: The lotus flowers come in a rainbow of colors, and each has its own, unique properties. Some dull pain, others promote healing and some can even stimulate love
making. The rare golden lotus keeps those who drink its nectar young, virile and free from the ravages of time. This order of knights was created to protect the gardens of these ever-blooming flowers from abuse, and in turn they are given droughts to keep them young and fighting fit. Though it is impossible to tell a lotus knight’s age from the color of their hair or the way they move, their eyes often give them away. Those who have drunk long of the lotus bear golden eyes, and the mark is not taken lightly by those who would challenge a warrior of this order to take a taste of the flowers they guard.
