100 Secret Societies

100 Secret SocietiesSecret societies can be found in any setting and fantasy settings are no different. They may have aims that are noble, or evil, or possibly a combination of both. How visible a society is can vary too.

This supplement has 100 different secret societies for characters to encounter. These groups could be potential patrons, foes and allies, or perhaps even a group that a character wants to join.

To use the list, either roll d100 for a random result or select appropriate ones manually.

Here are some sample results:

34. Seekers of the Spheres: Crystal balls are well-known tools among scryers and diviners, but there are tales of nine globes enchanted by Erasmus Fall more than 500 years ago. Each sphere was tied to a different plane, and the spells woven into them made these crystals powerful focal points of energy. Lost to the machinations of a traitorous apprentice, the Seekers aim to once again unite these unique relics. Because while each of them is a powerful magic item in its own right, when used in conjunction with one another they can move the heavens and earth alike.

35. The Unknown Soldiers: Not all soldiers who go to war return home again. While many die in the fighting, there are others who simply vanish in the carnage of a battlefield. It’s said the mysterious figures in black armor, who carry no banners and give no quarter, are the souls of warriors unable to rest after being left behind in the mud. In truth this legend is a ruse used by the Unknown Soldiers who seek to prune the ranks of warmongers and profiteers who would eagerly pocket the money gained from conflict. Their black visors hide their true identities, and often lets the society achieve their ends anonymously, sowing confusion and trepidation among those who seek to avoid their attention.

36. The Iron Circle: In Wralth it’s said that pacts with the ancient fey who once ruled the primordial forests was what gave the fledgling nation the strength to grow. Like the red ironwood tree on the royal crest, though, most believe the fey are gone now, if they ever existed in the first place. The Iron Circle honors the old pacts in secret, meeting in sanctified groves and deep caverns, upholding the ancient rites. Some say it’s all nonsense, but members argue that if it is then the pagentry does no harm. If the rites do have the power to maintain their nation’s strength, though, then the society must not fail in its duties.
